Does your fitness journey look like a road littered with bumps, holes, and tons of rest stops along the way? Or does it look more like the road less taken? The good news is you’re not alone. For many people, beginning to make their way towards a fitter and healthier body is easy. But the upkeep can be another thing altogether.
Most of the time, the start of your fitness journey is the easiest part. You decide you want to take a turn towards better health and wellness. You pick up a new exercise regimen and even start eating betters. But a few burpees and a few grain bowls later, you find yourself losing motivation and diving for the couch to watch reruns. And then the cycle starts all over again once you feel guilty for quitting so suddenly.
The key to staying true to your fitness goals is to make a plan. Make a solid roadmap you can follow so you can stay on track for longer. And if your interest wanes, you can easily go back and start from where you left off. The truth is having a fit lifestyle starts with habit building.
That being said, today we’ll be going through some of the things you need to do in order to stick with your fitness goals throughout the year. Let’s get started!
Having a “why” is important if you want to get healthier. This is because if you don’t have a solid reason for moving more or eating healthier or making better choices for your body, it is easier to lose sight of what’s important. You will end up losing motivation at the first sign difficulty.
Â
You need to tie your fitness goals to something meaningful in your life so you’ll have something more concrete to hold on to when your resolve gets challenges by certain circumstances.
Â
Instead of saying you want to lose weight, delve deeper into your psyche and pin down a solid reason. So you want to stay healthy so you can watch your kids grow up? Do you want to spend more time with the people who are most important to you? Do you want to be more active in making a difference in the world?
When you're armed with a solid mantra like the ones we mentioned above, it'll be easier to stay on track every single time. To help you remember, make sure you see it every day. Set it as a reminder on your phone or print it out on nice paper and hang it around the house or office.
When it comes to eating right, planning is everything. It can be tempting to go for a double cheeseburger with bacon when there’s nothing in front of you to serve as an alternative.Â
Â
What’s more, nutrition is an essential aspect of fitness. If you don’t fuel your body right, you won’t be strong enough, you can’t endure strenuous physical activity so much, and you’ll have a more difficult time toning your muscles.Â
Â
With that being said, you should fuel your body properly before and after a workout. You should also eat balanced meals every day.
Â
Make meals and snacks ahead of time instead of going for quick solutions like takeout food or a store-bought energy bar.Â
Â
Look for recipes that are healthy and that you can store in the fridge so you can have them any time you need it. This way, you won’t have an excuse to choose fast food over properly portioned and nutritionally balanced food.
Let's face it, it's hard to skip a workout when you know you're wearing something cute. So have an arsenal of workout outfits at hand that makes you feel excited to move your body. Be sure also to keep some in your car so you won't have an excuse to skip going to the gym when you come from work.
However, they can get pretty expensive so you need to take good care of them. First, be sure to let them dry before throwing them in the hamper. Bacteria love damp and warm areas like sweaty gym clothes. So before tossing them along with your other clothes, hang them to dry.
Second, use a different detergent for your workout clothes. Pick a mild detergent that does not have harsh chemicals that can damage the fibers. You may also wash them separately instead of washing them together with your regular laundry.
For a lot of people, the main reason for not working it is never having enough time for it. But that’s just an excuse. The truth is, can find time to work out if you choose to.
Yes, we all have busy schedules which can sidetrack us sometimes but that shouldn't deter us from achieving our fitness goals. So bust out your planner and block out time specifically just for working out. Having a set time for this activity will set you up for success in the long run as it makes it more difficult for you to make excuses.
Always remember to look at how far you’ve gone. Knowing and seeing your progress motivates you to do more and it reminds you that your effort and hardship have not been for naught. The truth is if you don’t see your progress, it’s easy to walk away because you feel like the time. You’ve put into it is not rewarded.
                                                                                                  Â
So take pictures if you need to so you can compare yours before and after body. Remember it's not for vanity but for motivation. You can also use mobile apps and fitness trackers to log in your daily progress. This way, you can look back at how much you've grown in the weeks or months since you've started your fitness journey.
